What goes into making a Scanpan product?
Good cookware must be functional. It has to feel good in the hand, offer excellent cooking properties and be easy to clean. Proper handling extends the lifespan of good cookware.
Since our beginning in 1956, our cast aluminium products with patented ceramic titanium coating have made up the core of our business. This is why we cast all our non-stick products in our own factory in Denmark – with each product going through a rigourous production and testing process to ensure 100% quality.
Casting
SCANPAN pans are squeeze cast recycled aluminum. In order to eliminate hot-spots, the heavy duty base is forged into shape by 250 tons of pressure. The perfectly flat base has optimum thickness (5.5 – 7.5mm) for rapid heat distribution and superior heat retention, which minimise energy consumption. The base has a lifetime warranty not to warp.
Grinding
After squeeze casting, rough edges are grinded off. The step is performed either manually or by robot.
Sandblasting
Products are then sandblasted to clean the surface and to reach a certain texture for applying the ceramic titanium layer. During the sandblasting process each individual item is checked 100% for casting errors.
Ceramic Titanium
SCANPAN uses a patented process for applying the ceramic titanium layer. The titanium is melted at 30.000°C after which the liquid titanium is ‘fired’ onto the product’s surface at twice the speed of sound. The result of this procedure seals the surface and makes it ten times harder than steel.
Non-stick
SCANPAN Cookware is coated with the latest technology of non-stick coatings – GREEN TEK. GREEN TEK is completely free of PFOA in ALL stages of the manufacturing process. SCANPAN is the first to develop a TRUE non-stick coating without use of PFOA. The GREEN TEK non-stick coating is specially invented for SCANPANs requirements for optimal non-stick properties.
Turning Off
Each item is turned off in the base. The base is finished in a slightly concave form to compensate for expansion during heating.
Handles
At this stage of production the Bakelite® handles are attached by SCANPAN’s patented locking system (without the use of screws and rivets). Most handles are ovenproof to 260°C and are guaranteed never to come loose.
Packing
Before the pans are packaged, each item is inspected for any visual defects. Each product box is sealed during the automatic packing process. Once the product is packaged, the boxes are placed on pallets and shrink wrapped before being shipped to a local warehouse or to their final destination.
