Kwon impresses guests with fusion cuisine – The Star Online

KUALA LUMPUR: “Refreshing”that’s how Maybank deputy president and Community Financial Service head Lim Hong Tat summed up the gala dinner feast hosted by South Korean celebrity chef Edward Kwon here yesterday.

The specially-designed menu was inspired by EdVentures in Asia, the 13-episode regional food travelogue presented by Maybank and aired on Life Inspired TV.

“We find Kwon to be a very refreshing personality. It’s something that our brand transformation can identify with.

“The food was refreshing, modern and light. I really like the beef,” said Lim, who said he was glad to finally experience delightful fusion cuisine.

Maybank Head of Retail Brand and Marcom Ng T’ze-Mae said: “What is important is that while he served fusion (food), he didn’t let the local flavours overpower the Korean (flavours).”

Kwon, described as Asia’s Jamie Oliver and South Korea’s Gordon Ramsay, hosted a second dinner for another 200 selected guests from Maybank, Star Publications (M) Bhd and Life Inspired TV.

The six-course dinner comprised Korean staple dishes with a hint of Malaysian flavours.

All ingredients used were sourced locally by Kwon, who was formerly head chef at the world’s only seven-star hotel Burj al-Arab in Dubai.

Tomorrow, Kwon will launch his own range of kitchenware at all Kitchen Shop and House of Presentation outlets, with special offers for Maybank and Maybank American Express Card members.

Malaysia is the first country outside South Korea where EK Cookware will be made available.
